Job Description & Requirements
These parents are expecting their first baby this coming September and would like overnight support for the first 6 weeks with the primary goal being to allow the parents to sleep while ensuring safe and responsive newborn care. They are looking for a calm, highly reliable newborn-care professional with substantial recent experience providing overnight care to babies under six weeks old.
They are looking for someone who can help them set strong, consistent safe-sleep practices, support them with breastfeeding, pumping, paced bottle-feeding, expressed-milk handling, and formula preparation.
Other duties would include, recognizing and responding to feeding cues; bringing the baby to the mother for direct breastfeeding; bottle feeding if expressed milk is introduced; burping, diapering, soothing, swaddling where appropriate, and resettling; safely handling expressed milk; setting up, washing, and sterilizing bottles or pump parts when needed; keeping the immediate baby-care area organized and restocking supplies; documenting feeds, diapers, sleep periods, and anything unusual overnight; waking the parents promptly for any feeding, medical, or safety concern.
Their ideal candidate will be someone who shows good judgment about when to wake the parents or recommend medical assessment and communicates clearly and directly. They may also put together a written care plan that they would like followed and they do not want deliberate stretching of feeds, cry-based methods, or behavioural sleep training during the early newborn period.
